Meditation Tips and Tricks
If you would like to get rid of pain, we give you a few pointers on how to go about it by using yoga and meditation techniques. Yoga uses simple techniques which can be performed by anyone and more importantly it is not time consuming. The result it ensures has made this ancient practice as relevant today as it was centuries ago. What meditation does - never mind if it is used for spiritual, religious or just relaxation purposes - is to make the mind calm by focusing on a certain object.
The path to meditation can be through music, through chants or even through silence. The focus of your concentration may be an object like a picture, the posture itself or even the rhythm of your breathing. You need to find a place where you won’t be interrupted when you do this so never mind what technique you use, the place you are in is important. Once you have decided what it is you want to focus on and where you are going to practice it, make yourself comfortable- not too much so you fall asleep. Done right, this gets you into a detached state even though you are aware of what is going on around you - this is a relaxed rather trance-like state. This is just the first state and it is what most people achieve however, there are states that can be even calmer and more relaxing.
Many of the world’s religions have meditation as a part pf their religious rituals but it with Buddhism that the practice is most closely associated and linked. Buddhism uses it in order to focus and direct one’s mental path to get to the point of enlightenment. This can be practiced in any posture: squatting, standing, walking or lying down, while the sitting or squatting position or ‘zazen’ is the most widely recommended posture.
In relationship to meditating, there are several psychological and physical benefits that have been documented, several of them arising out of a research project that was conducted by Professor Herbert Benson at the Harvard Medical School. Sessions as short as 20 minutes when done regularly can do a world of good to you including reduced blood pressure, reduced tension in the muscles and healthy metabolic activity. On attaining a deep state, mental pictures, swirls of color or a voice speaking internally may arise. Some of the follow-on studies have reflected that meditation can also help to relieve anxiety and stress, migraine, headaches, depression, fatigue, chronic pain, and insomnia. The good news is that with better self awareness, comes a better state of health and well-being for you both in mind as well as body and you find yourself functioning much better that you thought possible. While traditionally meditation was a tool to get you to a higher spiritual level, today it is also used to help you manage the stresses and tension that are a part and parcel of the modern lifestyle. When you combine yoga and meditation, you will find it a perfect recipe to help you to a life without stress and tension.
